Management Simulations Inc.- Professor - Business Simulation
I just received my evaluation forms back from last semester. The evaluation forms are filled out by the students at the end of each semester for each course.
The students are asked to rate the course itself and the individual professor who taught the class, in terms of effectiveness at meeting learning objectives, usefulness for them in the future, how well the professor knew and conveyed the material, etc. They also have an opportunity to make comments on things like, what they liked best about the course, how it could be improved, etc.
I taught two sections of Skidmore's Capstone Business Strategy class for senior business majors and used the Capstone® Business Simulation in both. One of the questions on the form was what did you like best about the course and every single student in both sections (32 in all) rated the Capstone® Business Simulation as the best part and the thing they learned from and enjoyed the most.
Students made a variety of comments about the simulation itself and mentioned things like, the dynamic nature of the simulation, the competition between teams, the clear tie-in between strategy and execution and the hands on usage of financial statements and reports as things they liked and found useful about the game.
I came to Skidmore after 34 years in the business world and feel that your Capstone® simulation is the only way to effectively teach a strategy class to students who have no hands on business experience. It really gives them a taste of the real world and teaches the concepts through experiencing them in action.
I am relatively low tech and even I can easily utilize and handle the Capstone® software without problems.
I will be teaching two sections again next Fall, and I will definitely use Capstone® again for my classes.
